You brief me, I plan the shoot and look after the day, and I'm usually the one lighting it, so the person on camera only has to think about what they're saying.

What a talking head shoot looks like

The people I film are usually experts or executives rather than presenters, and nobody expects them to perform. My job is to have the room calm before they sit down: the light set, the sound checked, the questions agreed. The kit and the crew should disappear; the person on camera shouldn't.

  • Planning that does its job

    A question list, a run of the day, and a recce if the location needs one. The person on camera shouldn't be the only one solving problems on the day.

  • Lit properly

    A soft key for a gentle look, something harder for a more editorial feel, or daylight where it suits the brief. Lit for the person and for the room, so both look like themselves.

  • One camera or more

    One camera for a quick interview, two with autocue for a polished piece, more for a panel or a Q&A. Whatever the day actually needs.

  • A turnaround you know up front

    Rushes on a drive, or a finished, graded edit. I'll give you a date before we shoot, and if you're cutting in-house, that's fine too.
