The brief.
This one came in through Tor Rezon, who was working on the campaign at Weber Shandwick. Her first email said the team 'have said brilliant things about you'. No pressure, then.
Skittles' Flip Your Fit invited people into a salon on Hoxton Street to have their outfits restyled with more colour, led by the stylist Abigale Masters. The film had to feel like Abigale's own content first: fast, playful, colourful and useful to her followers, with the energy of the salon cut through it.
The catch was time. Filming with Abigale ran from 11am to 1pm, during the press and influencer session, and Weber wanted the film turned round the same day, while the client and Abigale were still around.
How I shot it.
- One person, one camera: a Sony A7S III with a Sigma 24-70
- A light and lav mics for Abigale's pieces to camera
- Every guest's before and after in the same spot, in front of the Flip Your Fit wall
- Quick cutaways of the rails, the salon and the street outside
The flip is the story, so each guest needed a clean before and after in the same frame. Everything else could be quick and loose. The night before, I'd also spotted that the agreement listed two edits, a hero film and a social film, when we'd agreed on one. Better to sort that out before the day than after it.
Cut by teatime.
I wrapped at 1pm and got the rushes up over lunch. The first cut was ready at 17:40, and after two more passes the final film was done at 19:38: a minute long, vertical, and made to feel like one of Abigale's own posts.
It went to Weber first thing the next morning.
